Time to Shine, Daughter of Mine
Time to shine, Daughter of mine
Everywhere you go - trailing glory that shines
Two decades of distance - your birth bridged the divide
=
One last hotel stay
Pool was too cold; hot tub was okay
Only two beds in the room - this time, no fray
One last cuddle with the little ones, wishing you could stay
=
A travesty at 5:30am - denied breakfast
To the gate, let us not be last
Return the gigantic rental car
Much too close to parting but from the terminal not far
=
To the airport, gate B9
Feeling anything but benign
We’re parting now but your light will still shine
Brighter than a mountain sunrise
=
I feel it was a similar gate
when I left as a missionary - to no longer obfuscate
my time and energy - dedicated to consecrate
to guid God’s children back to Heaven’s gate
=
A kiss and a hug from Papa, then one from Juice -
One more from Fitz, and two from the Caboose
=
Texting my daughter from the plane
Miss You! emoji’s to salve the pain
Airplane mode was on - the sent messages restrained
Cuddling Fresca, weeping helps us gain
Appreciation for the time we’ll all be together again
But doesn’t help stop the pain
=
A rhyme for her but mostly for me
We whisper because tears wont let us sing:
“1 – 2 – 3 (months)
Sissy’s back with me* ”
(*for Thanksgiving)
=
Jetblue to Orlando, Florida
Where many a spring break vacation left us
Exhausted, exhilarated, and ready to bus
Back to our home away from the Deep South’s muss
=
“She’ll be in His hands” I still trust
as my ministering brethren blessed me, with authority true and just
Onward ever onward as we do the hard things, we must
While to this new rhythm we adjust.
